Individual/Asymmetric measures

Answered
Accobat Development asked on January 22, 2024

Hello,

Is it possible to implement calculation measures in an "individual" or "asymmetric" manner? For example, if I have a column for every month of the year and measures for revenue and costs. If I make a calculated measure profits, revenue - costs, is it in any way possible to add this only to columns I specify?

We are open to workarounds on this manner e.g. using filtering or similar. But we haven't seen a suitable solution so far.

Hello, Jonas!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Kindly note that Flexmonster, by design, does not support string comparison to add calculated values for the specific members in columns.
We can recommend the following workaround with the context menu for the described case:

  1. For each column, add a context menu tab to show/hide the "profits" measure.
  2. Show the profit measure while clicking on the context menu in the same Flexmonster component or in a separate pivot.

Please let us know if the suggested workaround sounds good to you, and we'll make an example for reference.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Solomiia

Hello again and thank you for your reply,

First, if this is in any way possible to implement, it would be a killer feature for us 🙂

Second, I think the workaround (with slight refinements) may be possible for us. We already have a function that allows users to implement their own dimensions, and after that a piece of code is executed to hide the dimension on all members that were not specified to include it. I think we could extend this logic to measures as well.

However, this solution for both measures and dimensions has a pretty severe hitch in that the hidden data still affects (sub)totals. If the above feature is not possible, is it in any way possible to:

  1. Ensure hidden dimensions/measures do not impact totals
  2. "Inject" hidden dimensions/measures with null or invalid values or similar such that they do not impact totals

Thank you for your help, as always

Hello, Jonas!

Thank you for getting back to us.

Kindly note that Flexmonster is the tool used to visualize the data, and the approach of hiding columns on the UI changes only the visual part of the component and does not affect the data model in any way. Therefore, we cannot offer an approach to satisfy the described use case for now.

Hope our answer has addressed your questions.

Kind regards,
Solomiia
