Can the dialog content be placed as a static component on the page beside the pivot table? As a sidebar for example, so it doesn't have to be opened through the toolbar and remains visible.

You can configure Field List to be opened by default. This is possible by setting configuratorActive: true. Please check out this demo.
However, the position of Field List is not configurable. You can create your own Field List and place it on the page beside the pivot table. Our component provides rich API to achieve that. For more details please refer to our docs.
