Is it possibile to prevents editing of some columns?

Take a table with NAME,SALARY columns, I want to make the SALARY column editable but not the NAME column.
Is there any API or configuration to do this?
A workaround can be an API to validate the user input, is there any API for this?
If not, is at least possible to shut-up the click event on some column cells?
