Using text in formulas

Answered
Gennady Gandelman asked 1 day ago

Hi,

Is it still not possible to use text in formulas? What should be a simple formula to calculate the ratio of male gender, for example, isn't doable if source data's gender field has text values 'Male' and 'Female'. We have to retrieve it coded as numeric and jump through the hoops with customizeCell (which isn't perfect anyway because opening to filter this field will still show unwanted numeric values) or retrieve a numeric version of the same field. There are other textual fields besides gender we would want users to be able to reference in their own calculated fields, so we are forced to think about it in advance and for each give users a numerically coded field. That really makes calculated fields feature close to useless at least for our needs. Are we missing a better approach? Are there plans perhaps to allow text fields in formulas?

Thank you

Hello, Gennady!

Thank you for showing continued interest in adding string comparison to Calculated Values.

Our team agrees that support for string-based conditions would make the Calculated Values functionality much more powerful. We have already added the request for string comparison in Calculated Values to our Customers’ Wishlist and will consider implementing this functionality in Flexmonster 3.0. For now, we recommend continuing to use the customizeCell solution.

Our team will notify you about any updates on the matter.

Feel free to ask if there are any further questions.

Kind regards,
Solomiia
