Greetings,
What is the logic of having "Conditional formatting" inside menu popup when right-clicking a string field in flat view? From a usability standpoint, it makes one think that conditional formatting is possible but of course they won't see the field appear in the list to choose from, so it ends up being confusing. What would be the recommended approach to avoid showing "Conditional formatting" where it's not possible?
The same goes for "Number formatting" option which for string fields can only affect alignment. Yet all other properties are still there inside format cells window. Could they be disabled if not applicable? It may also be more appropriate to call it "Cell formatting" so that it applies more universally.

The reason “Conditional formatting” and “Number formatting” appear in the right-click menu is that they reuse the context menu from the pivot table view, where they are only available when right-clicking numeric values. In the flat view, some of the options may not be strictly applicable, which can understandably be a bit confusing.
As a solution, we recommend modifying the context menu for the flat view accordingly to your requirements. We have prepared an example, where "Number formatting" is renamed to "Cell formatting" and the "Conditional formatting" tab is hidden for strings: https://jsfiddle.net/flexmonster/ueqka2cp/
