How to hide subtotals columns when showSubtotal is set to false?

Answered
Gabriele Tagliazucchi asked on December 6, 2018

Hi,
we've identified Flex as the main candidate pivot component for a web site, but client is not convinced becaus of this limitation: it seems impossible to hide the column subtotals. Setting Options "do not show subtotals", still shows (empty) columns. Is there a way out of this?

Thanks,
G.

Hello, Gabriele,
Thank you for your interest in Flexmonster Pivot.
Currently, our сlassic view option is available for row headers only. Column headers are displayed in a compact form, that is why you see the empty columns. The request for such improvement is in our backlog. However, there is no estimated timeframe.
Please let me know in case of any other questions.
Regards,
Tanya

Hi,
Has there been any further discussion on this? A couple of fellow team members and clients were excited about the ability to easily hide subtotals, but were a little crestfallen to learn that the empty columns still show up. Is there a Javascript or CSS workaround that we could use for now?
Thanks,
Jon

Hello Jon,
Thank you for writing. Currently, the architecture of our Pivot Table does not allow to avoid the empty columns. The empty columns which appear after the subtotals are turned off are in charge of expand/collapse functionality. Therefore, it is not possible to find an external Javascript or CSS workaround.
The only solution is to reconsider the current design and find a better approach. As my colleague Tanya has already mentioned, such task is already in our backlog. However, due to its complexness, we are not ready to provide you with the estimated timeframe.
Please let us know in case of any other questions.

Dmytro

Hello,
Any progress on this request? It's very hard to explain to clients the reason of these empty columns.
Thanks

Hi,
I have the same request, we have another pivot in legacy versions that has the feature and is being missed in our solutions with FlexMonster.   The argument from business is "In some cases the column totals don't make sense'

Hello,
We have good news regarding the issue with blank columns.
Here is the beta version: https://s3.amazonaws.com/flexmonster/FLEXMONSTER-2_7_7-beta-MAY16.ZIP.
Could you please check if it meets your needs?
Please keep in mind that it is a beta version and still requires more efforts for testing. It will appear in the release build not earlier than the 3rd of June.
We would be grateful for your feedback.
Regards,
Dmytro

Hi there,
The initial beta version looks awesome!
The only thing I noticed was that as I put my own project's custom options on the example, specifically "expands": { "expandAll": true } (single change shown in attached png) onto the data Slice, there seems to be weird behavior when then trying to expand/collapse columns in the grid (some headers/parent hierarchies disappear, expand/collapse button becomes inoperable after clicking it the first time).
Hope this helps! I can't wait to implement this into our app as its something our clients have been requesting!
Sincerely,
Jon
