use calculated values on string values

I would like to know if it is possible to use string functions (or more widely, JavaScript functions?), in calculated values.
I have a result set with a column which contains string values such as "X / Y".
I would like to build a report with slices on the "X" values.
Based on this link, it seems not possible in FlexMonster: https://www.flexmonster.com/question/full-list-of-supported-operators-for-calculated-values-formula/
Please advise. If not, I will handle it in my SQL request using SUBSTRING_INDEX.

Thank you for your question.

In Flexmonster it is not possible to use string functions in calculated values as you described.
Calculated values operate with numbers only.

We would like to confirm that doing this on the server side is a possible workaround.
